LOAN DEALS: Arsenal loan watch starlets
There are currently 13 Arsenal youngsters out on loan. Jay Simpson moved to West Brom and Reserve team captain Gavin Hoyte has joined Watford. Fellow reserve-teamers Rui Fonte, Henri Lansbury, Paul Rodgers and Rene Steer have also departed for Crystal Palace, Scunthorpe United, Northampton Town and Gillingham respectively.
They join the existing loanees Armand Traore, Nacer Barazite, Kerrea Gilbert and Abu Ogogo away with other English clubs.
Jay Simpson
West Brom 3-0 Sunderland
Saturday, April 25.
Jay completed the first half of West Brom’s comfortable victory over fellow-strugglers Sunderland. Jonas Olsson opened the scoring in the 40th minute before Simpson was replaced by Youssouf Mulumbu at the interval. The Baggies made sure of three points when Chris Brunt made it two just before the hour and Juan Carlos Menseguez iced the cake two minutes from time
Rui Fonte
Doncaster 2-0 Crystal Palace
Saturday, April 25.
Rui played 76 minutes of Palace’s lacklustre defeat at Doncaster in their final away game of the season. The visitors had hit the post three times before former Gunner Dean Shiels slotted Donny into the lead. James Hayter made it two midway through the second half and, a minute later, Fonte made way for Lee Hills.
Henri Lansbury
Leicester 2-2 Scunthorpe
Saturday, April 25.
Henri completed the whole second half of Scunthorpe’s draw at champions-elect Leicester. Michael Morrison’s 16th-minute header was enough to hand the hosts a half-time advantage but Paul Hayes and Grant McCann turned the game on its head after the break. However, Morrison was on hand to tap in the Foxes equaliser 13 minutes from time.
Rene Steer
Gillingham 0-0 Bury
Saturday, April 25.
Rene was an unused substitute when play-off certainties Gillingham and Bury played out a turgid goalless draw.
Pedro Botelho
Salamanca 1-1 Elche
Sunday, April 26
Pedro played 65 minutes of Salamanca’s dramatic draw against Elche. David Fuster’s 19th-minute strike looked to have secured all three points for the visitors but Quique Martin swooped a minute from time to snatch a point for Los Charros.
Havard Nordtveit
Lillestrom 1-2 Rosenborg
Saturday, April 25
Havard completed all 90 minutes of Lillestrom’s defeat against Rosenborg. Bjorn Helge Riise, younger brother of Jon Arne, slammed the hosts in front after 55 minutes but Rosenborg hit back with two late goals. First ex-Sunderland striker Rade Prica equalised nine minutes from time and then Marek Sapara grabbed the winner seven minutes later.
