Arsenal will attempt to sign Melo from Fiorentina in bid over £10 million
It has been reported in various newspapers today and web columns (especially on the Daily Mail) that Arsene Wenger will finally make his interest in Brazilian star Felipe Melo de Carvalho, currently of Fiorentina in the form of a bid.

Arsene Wenger has tracked the star for about 3 years now and lost out last season to Fiorentina who signed the Brazil international for £10 million euros from Almeria the Spanish side.
Currently Melo is 25 years old and has that expierience which we lack in midfield and he would support Fabregas very well. he is known to like a tackle and last season he picked up 17 yellows and 3 reds, but as you know Serie A is full of divers and not football players. He would really suit our style of play and would provide us with a player that can hit long range shots and provide that back up we need behind Fabregas.
Felipe Melo de Carvalho – Fact File

Age = 25 years old
Nationality = Brazilian
Position = Central Attacking Midfielder
Height = 1.83 metres
Weight = 73 kgs
Transfer Cost = £12 – 16 million
Transfer probability = 60%
Would he be a good signing?
Well personally I do not know much about the player, but according to many Arsene Wenger has tracked the player for up to 3 years now but lost out on him after Fiorentina beat us to him. If he can play alongside Fabregas and give us the support we’ve been lacking then yes he would. But with the transfer fee being over £12 million if we signed him i would always have sour grapes over how we missed out on Gareth Barry for only £12million.
What are your views on this possible signing?

Sell Eboue, Gallas and Toure for say 22 million. Buy Hitzesperger, Melo, Sakho and Zapata and a tall striker for say 55 million. Net cost = 33 million.

well, i guess we didn’t just lose out on Gareth Barry for only £12million… just look at his wage..Nobody other than mancity will pay such amount for Gareth.

This looks like a great signing… he’s aggressive and used to backing up attacking midfielders, and can contribute with long shots and headers from set pieces as well. A bit of an upgrade from a Veloso or Cana… this would be a good acquisition. It seems a bit expensive really, but our midfield would be as good as it gets in the EPL. Then we just have to sell Ade and Gallas, nab Sakho and Huntelaar, and win some goddamn silverware next year.

Melo would be an excellent addition to Arsenal. He’s strong and deadly in the air. You can see that lately Dunga won’t start a match without him with good reason.
