REVIEWING REALISTIC ARSENAL TRANSFER TARGETS AND WHO WE WILL SIGN THIS SUMMER
Well as always this summer Arsenal have been linked with many players throughout the world, but today I have set out to create a post about the realistic players who could come to Arsenal and the likely hood we will sign them.
Starting from defence and working up the field you can see the players below, (Please note the word realistic because we have been linked with many players around the field and I’m only showing as the word suggest real transfer prospects.)
Defence
Everybody know this is the area we are attempting to strengthen and there have been 3 or 4 real targets Wenger could go for or is in the process of going for:
Thomas Vermaelen
Position: Centre Back
Height = 181 cm
Weight = 75 kg
Age = 23 years old

Transfer possibility = 90 %
Christian Zapata
Position: Centre Back

Position: Centre Back
Height = 195 cm
Weight = 87 kg
Age = 27 years old
Current Club = Fulham FC
Transfer Cost = £7 – 11 million

Raul Albiol
Position: Centre Back
Height = 187 cm
Weight = 74 kg

- Well that concludes the defensive realistic options Arsene has in place to sign. Personally I’m hoping he brings in Vermaelen (who already looks to be signed but you never know what might happen) and Zapata who really does look like a good defender. If not Zapata then Sakho for me who will without doubt be a great player in years to come.
The Midfield
Yaya Toure

Transfer possibility = 40 % (we can’t afford the high wages)
Lorik Cana
Position: Defensive midfielder
Height = 186 cm
Weight = 86 kg
Age = 25 years old
Current Club = Olympique Marseille
Transfer Cost = £7 – 11 million
Transfer possibility = 55 %
Miguel Veloso
Position: Defensive midfielder
Height = 181 cm
Weight = 79 kg
Age = 23 years old
Current Club = Sporting Lisbon
Transfer Cost = £9 – 13 million
Transfer possibility = 60 %
Blaise Matuidi
Position: Defensive midfielder
Height = 175 cm
Weight = 79 kg
Age = 22 years old
Current Club = St Etienne
Transfer Cost = £4 – 8 million
Transfer possibility = 75 %
Out of the following possible transfers the one Arsene really would want is yaya Toure although he knows deep down this won’t happen becasue he won’t offer high enough wages for him. Therefore his agent has ruled out a move to Arsenal, but you never know. Second likely is Blaise Matuidi who he could pick up cheap because St Etienne have been relegated meaning he may be able to pick him up for £5 million, a good signing for a little money, although personally I would choose Veloso or Cana.
The Forwards
You have to understand that none of the follwing players listed below will enter Arsenal unless Adebayor leaves, and damn it man pack your bags, we’ll take £20 million and use it very wisely!
Pavel Pogrebnyak
Position: Striker
Height = 183 cm
Weight = 76 kg
Age = 25 years old
Current Club = Zenit St Petersburg
Transfer Cost = £8 – 12 million
Transfer possibility = 85 % (If Adebayor leaves)
Marouane Chamakh
Position: Striker
Height = 185 cm
Weight = 70 kg
Age = 25 years old
Current Club = Bordeaux
Transfer Cost = £6 – 9 million
Transfer possibility = 75 % (If Adebayor leaves)
Please Note I have not included Edin Dzeko in the list because they (Wolfsburg) have rulled out a transfer of him and he said he would only leave for AC Milan so that’s it for him.
Conclusion
Defensive signings should be: Vermaelen and Zapata/Sakho
Midfield: Lorik Cana
Forward: Pavel Pogrebnyak (If and I hope Adebayor leaves)

i heard that Pogrebnyak could b evailable on the cheap, like 5 mil cause his contract runs out in november, also app lorik cana is only rated in the 5million bracket, two awesome signings 4 only 10 million, arsene like shopping

Great post mate…
i have a few others that we cud include in there though, especially in defense, the 2 best available centre backs to us i reckon are Per Mertesacker of Bremen, who wud probably cost about 15m, but wud be a great buy as he is a big guy, and can head the ball very well. plus bremen arent in the champions league next season so they might have a fire sale, ( theyve already lost diego to juventus )
Another one we cud go for is Giorgios Chiellini from Juventus. Another big defender who is a pretty much carbon copy of Mertesacker, but has had a quality season is Serie A, and would slot straight into our side, shud Kolo decide to go to City, or if gallas is sold. These 2 wud be my prefered choices, but i wud be happy to see Vermaelen And Sakho join the arsenal cos theyve both had superb seasons, aswell as possible zapata too, if we lose a couple of centre backs as expected, with silvestre, senderos, gallas and toure all possible leaving. But I dont think that Bassong is good enough to wear the arsenal jersey, even though he had a decent season at newcastle, he made alot of errors.

Dear Writer,
Your choices of players are good. However, the use of the word realistic in your title is kind of problematic because in all fair realism, we seldom sign more than 2 direct first team players each summer.
Good picks though. Maybe send Wenger this list. =)

I think all of your predictions are too high – except for Vermaelen. Although I would not be suprised if Sakho signed aswell.
We wont sign a DM – Denilson has got that place covered, and deservedly so.

Darren Bent is terrible, and isnt even premiership standard, never mind england or top 4 team quality…
and Theo and Cesc will be the backbone of this club for at least the next 5 years, so they are untransferrable as far as im concerned.

cana seems to b a gr8 option in midfield… but is arsene really after him? der has hardly been any news linkin him wit the gunners…! i also heard everton hav already made a bid for matuidi while v haven’t…

also on sakho, he said “I want to formally refute the statements that have been published in the press. There was never any question that I leave PSG. No transfer is in process.” so i think we also lost out on sakho

Sell Adebayor and Gallas, and take the 30 mil plus another 10 from the coffers and buy Vermaelen (12 mil), Sakho (8 mil), Cana (9 mil), and Pogrebnyak (11 mil).

Alright Gooners, we need to get some better players in order to even contend to the top 4. I believe signing of Cana would be crucial. Cana played with Nasri in Marseille which would bring great chemistry to the team. If we got Yaya it would be great, but lets face Arsene he would never spend that much on player wages. Another place we need to really figure out is our defence. I think we need more depth in the back. Possibly Stephen Taylor? He is an excellent young talent. Has great experience as well. Even though its not speculated, it would be a great signing seeing as Newcastle are down. We also need another defender as a substitute for all the mid-season injuries. I think if we could get either David Wheater or Vermaelen that would seal a good transfer window. This all based off my opinion. I also think Adebayor needs to go, he can’t finish and is very inconsistent. If he does go we need a top class striker. Someone like Eto’o or Bafemetis Gomis would be an upgrade. Even though Eto’o is too pricy.

Think we need to get proven experenced prem leag players in, Two hard hitting proven defenders, and two hard hitting midfield players. and a powerful striker. Martins would do well and be much better at our club.
Also think the introduction of Upson, Lescot and parker all being english would be great as we need to keep an eye out on this home grown topic otherwise we will be slow to react and get the left overs. Should have gone for Barry at £12 million – once again slow to react.

I think the choices are very relistic options.
I think that if Toure goes to City we’ll get Richards in a swap deal.
Lorik Cana had a great season in Marseille but i really like Hamsik a good quality midfielder with a powerful shot and good passing,

Cana reminds me so much of Roy Keane, some of the things he does are verging on psychotic (which I quite like) so I want him. Sakho we will have no chance for, and Zapata, for some crazy reason, doesn’t really appear to be on Wenger’s radar.
Up front it wouldn’t surprise me if we picked up Nene of Nacional and from what I have seen of him, he’s worth it (his striking style is unbelievable and so unique)

We defo need to sign felpo melo as we need a player as good a vieira used to be when we dominated in the midfield we should also sign micah richards as this was his childhood dream and there is no doubt he would turn us down as he loves the club. I would love us to sign david villa and alonso but we need to sell gallas, adebayor, rosicky and bendtner.

good predictions. veloso though not likely with united and city on his tail. you missed huntelaar he is very likely with the arrivals of kaka,ronaldo,benzema ect. i would say fabiano but the other day he said he wanted to go to ac milan so thats a downer. let us get rid of adebayor and eboue. if cesc wants to leave and we get 60 mil i’d be sad to lose him but there are lots of world class centre midfielders we could get.chamakh i do not rate i’d hate him to come to arsenal.if i was wenger id consider arteta.

I like the list but its highly unlikely we will sign more then 2 players Wenger has said a few times that he doesnt believe a team should sign more then 3 signings a season, with Vermealen in the bag the most likely aquisition will be Blaise Matuidi although i feel Cana would be the best signing and valued at just 6mil euros.

Most Likely to happen in my opinion: vermaelen (already done), filepe melo and chamakh…
Dream List to come to us would be: Defencive Mid Daniel De Rossi,Centre Back Chiellini,Striker Podolski….
Last note: Wenger has got to start spending on players to bulk the team up a few distinguished players are getting misty eyed and already showing signs of wanting to leave we wont be able to keep them if we come 4th again next year… Fabregas and Arshavin come to mind… I personaly hope Peter Hill-Wood and Danny Fiszman get taken over at the board at emerates because they are slowly killing the club by not investing and letting others invest into it…

I think its been clear for years that the directors of the club could do with taking their thumb out. Wenger is possibly the greater coach in the world, but he needs to spend money on established players with experience to help him coordinate his excellent taste in football onto the pitch. In this, at times the players seem to be playing ‘great football’ without any real direction or tactic, and that simply doesn’t work in the Premier League. We need an experienced players, nobody under 25, arsenal have too many ‘future talents’ and not enough reputable players.

Its too late to sign Lorik Cana cuz he’s now at Sunderland, but if we could get Blaise Matuidi, Sakho, Akinfeev, Chamakh and Sessegnon I’d be a happy man. But we’ve also lost out on Pogrebnyak cuz he’s at some german club. Arsenal need to get rid of Almunia, and Eboue.
