Evening Gooners..

So apparently we are on the verge of signing Vermaelen, i want a general feel from all arsenal fans over what you think about him and the situation where by if he comes in, ‘Le sulk’ himself gallas is off? Here’s where i stand: to be honest i’ve never been a great fan of gallas, not to say i particulalry hate him but nor do i particularly like him. i think he lacks leadership skills (thus losing the captincy and in honest truth there is a debate among fans wether he was just given the captaincy in the first place to keep him at the club the spoilt brat). I would gladly recieve anything over 8million for gallas with offers reportedly coming in from Man(oil) City and AC Milan (who are from last night Kakaless).

I think Vermaelen is not what we are crying out for, since last season i stated we need a big strong centreback..emphasise on the word ‘big’. Is Vermaelen really the influential, no-nonsense centre back we crave and strikes fear into the opposition much like Manure’s Vidic or the Chelski’s Terry?

So you may think if he is not the one than who…Does anyone remember this time last season when we were in the same exact position over possible transfer targets. Does a certain Raul Albiol ring a bell, anyone? Standing at an intimidating 6 foot 2 and A HALF (yes that half makes a difference) and still young at 23! Albiol can play either centre back or the defensive midfield role. Funny how this one player can operate in the two positions of which we crave..hmmm!

                                                                         
The next question is but how will we afford this young player. Well here is the answer my red coloured shirt wearing friends! He plays for Valencia..yes VALENCIA. The team consisting of the likes of the two David’s; Villa and Silva. Valencia’s debts have got  so out of hand that players are not receiving a wage and the build on the new stadium has had to be postponed due to lack of funds. Reports claim we made a £5 million bid for him last season, so with international and european experience under his belt and more experience in the competitive La liga could we get Raul Albiol on the cheap. I know many Arsenal fans have jumped on the Vermaelen band waggon but consider other players.

On the Vermaelen front i have watched him play in the Eredivise league for a while now, he is a good player (well they dont just dish out the captaincy) and he is very good in the air despite his size. I wouldn’t be upset if we signed him, indeed i do rate him but i think we could get more for what we are paying if the reports around the 10million mark are true. Considering the fact we could sign albiol for 8-10million or Zapata for the same price. Another reason why i am not so sure why we should invest in Vermaelen is a guy called Tony Adams, not to sure if you all have heard him. ‘Ol Tony is at it again and said that he doesn’t believe Vermaelen is the one for us and if anyone knows a thing or two about defending then hes the one.
