Who I would like to see lining up for Arsenal next season + transfers needed
Well as you expect within the middle of the summer transfer season Arsenal, as always have been linked with many players from around the world and also within England.
From the transfer rumours displayed so far this is who I would like to find lined up for the first game next season in the premier league:
Goalkeeper
Manuel Almunia:
Why?
I think Almunia is simply a good goalkeeper – nothing special compared to some of the great goal keepers but I think he is consistent and pulls of good saves without making many errors. Therefore he deserves his place from last season.
Left Back
Gael Clichy
Why?
Because Gael is definitely if not the best but very close to the best left backs in the premier league. He is secure defensively (not great but decent) but going forward he provides great pace with good crosses, as well as providing good attacking runs with inter play. His place was never under threat. Give it a year or two and Kieran Gibbs could be pushing though.
Left Centre Back
Thomas Vermaelen
Why?
Because he seems a very good player for Ajax and a loud captain which is exactly what we need; some dominance on the field. Also people who have seen him play (as well as people who have commented 0n the site) say he likes a strong tackle which is good. A good buy if Toure or Gallas go, or even if they don’t for that matter!
Right Centre Back
Kolo Toure
Why?
Because doubtless of what people say he is one of the best defenders in the world and physically he is like a rock which can’t be said for Gallas. I’d rather see Gallas go than Toure. People may dis-agree but in my opinion there are very few better than him. Although we would need a replacement when he plays in Th Africa Cup of nations.
Right Back
Bacary Sagna
Why?
Because he is rarely injured and always plays a good game which is what every team needs. You know what you will get with him. he is definitely one of the most under rated defenders in the league or even in the world.
Left Midfield
Samir Nasri
Why?
Because he is a good player as shown in his debut season – especially with those two goals against Man Utd. Next season he will play a bigger part and will show he really is a world class talent. He can play down the wing and drift in with a good shot from the edge of the area as well as quality finishing inside the box. What more could you want?
Central Midfield
Cesc Fabregas
Why?
There is no need to explain, best player in Arsenal squad! As well as being captain!
Defensive Midfield
Miguel Veloso
Why?
Because he is a realistic target unlike Xabi Alonso and Yaya Toure (who I would prefer). he plays a good holding midfield game but also has a decent shot which Song doesn’t. He could be obtained for around £8 million which is a good deal in my opinion. Exactly what Arsenal need in midfield.
Right Midfield
Andrey Arshavin
Why?
Well he is undoubtley a great player of the highest calibre, I would prefer him to play second striker although I don’t think that is feasible with the way our team is set out. let him play right wing and allow him to drift in-field with Sagna overlapping him down the wing. Then Veloso would stay back as over for Sagna. Simple!
Left Striker
Edin Dzeko
Why?
Because he is a good tall striker who can run at players, which is what Adebayor couldn’t do. Only coming if Adebayor goes the other way though, which I hope he does!
Right Striker
Robin Van Persie
Why?
Because he is our second best player behind Fabregas and we all know his cracking qualities he brings to the team. No need to say any more.
The Bench
Theo Walcott – A great player who would be changed for Veloso allowing us to play 4-3-3 with Arshavin moving to a more forward role (may be CAM)
Christian Zapata – A good CB who would make a sensible signing, could play but he will only be signed if Kolo Toure leaves meaning he would slot into the first team straight away.
Jack Wilshere – I’ve watched him in the twos and he is superb. Can play central midfield or Left midfield and will without doubt be one of the best players Arsenal have ver made in the next few years.
Nicklas Bendter – As much as I hate to say this he has played quite well at the end of the season and with some work on his finishing he will be quite a decent payer.
Carlos Vela – A good striker who in the next few years will become one fo the best. Deserves his place.
Kieran Gibbs – Great player and is a back up (for the time being) for Gael Clichy
Thomas Rosicky – Great player though can’t be relied on to be fit
Denilson - Good player just not quite there yet in my opinion.
Eduardo – Sorry i forgot him at first but after tons of comments reminding me I now have realised my big mistake!
Well there you go that took over an hour! Phew. I know many won’t agree so I want you to oput your teams with subs in the comments section.

i agree with u mate
June 10th, 2009 at 12:13 pm
and Eduardo?
June 10th, 2009 at 12:16 pm
U’ve missed out Eduardo…Diabi etc…are they not in your plans??? Nice try dohhhh but do we realy have the money to finance these signings??
June 10th, 2009 at 12:31 pm
Um, where on earth is Eduardo? He’s not even in your lineup, mate.
I must disagree with Dzeko, he seems like a Flamini. One good season, and a mega-huge price tag. There’s no evidence that he can cut it in the EPL. I’m all for keeping as many players as possible.
So:
Almunia
Sagna, Toure, Gallas, Clichy
Fabregas, Song (if no holding midfielder comes in), Nasri
Arshavin, Adebayor, RVP
Bench:
Fabianski, Zapata (or Bassong or whoever comes in), Traore or Gibbs or Eboue, Denilson, Walcott, Wilshere, Bendtner
Fairly standard, but I don’t believe anyone needs to go.
June 10th, 2009 at 12:39 pm
GK – Igor Akinfeev
RB – Sagna
LB – Clichy
CB – Vermalaen
CB – Miguel Torres
MR – Walcott
ML – Andreas Guardado
MC – Fabregas
MC – Samir Nasri
ST – Van Persie
ST – Arshavin

June 10th, 2009 at 12:48 pm
You dont even have the brains to put a sub keeper on ur bench.. otherwise… nice enuff
June 10th, 2009 at 12:54 pm
I use to be a Veloso fan but his recent form has not really impressed me. I would much rather Lorik Cana who is an absolute beast in midfeild, he likes doing the dirty work so that will benefit Fabregas in midfeild. I would like Toure to stay but the 13 million + Richards deal is pretty good deal. While Richards has been c rap recently i think that is because he is low on confidence and having a c rap manager like Mark Hughes doesn’t help, just look how good Jo was when he left City and player under a good manager like Moyes. Also, Ricahrds is a Arsenal fan and therefore would be more determined and confident playing for the club he supported as a boy. Not to mention people 2 seasons ago were willing to pay up to 20 million punds for Ricahrds so getting him cheap now won’t be bad. Also Pavel Pogrebnyak is free agent on November so if we offer 6-8 million pounds for him then im sure they would rather that then let him go for free. Him and Arshavin read each other like a book when they were at Zenit so it would be great to have them at Arsenal.
June 10th, 2009 at 12:56 pm
Almunia is good against Hull & Accrington Stanley – but when we play the big games he always gets caught out – Im telling you this now and Ive said it for years – we’ll never win another trophy with Almunia 1st choice keeper….its now the biggest problem we have at Arsenal by a mile a world class keeper and centre back and if Im being greedy def midfielder and we’d have what we’d need to win the prem again – Almunia is a disaster
June 10th, 2009 at 12:59 pm
what about eduardo
June 10th, 2009 at 1:04 pm
i agree with your line up, and even though i like veloso i prefer Lorik Cana, he is exactly what arsenal need maybe hes not tactical enough but we need a no-nonsense player if you watched his games u know what i mean and he can man handle any player in premier league, he would be a great back up for Fabregas and would help out the defence, and i would also buy Arshavins friend Pavel Pogrebnyak, what u think?
June 10th, 2009 at 1:23 pm
Your team is fine with one exception:Clichy should be sold as he’s been well replaced by Gibbs who is fast improving. Having had a baptism of fire and played in CL against Manure et al he is not going to like being on the bench. We need to let him continue growing as player by giving him games in the EPL alongside Traore who will be back after a year with Pompey.
Get £20-25 from Madrid and strengthen elsewhere. Kolo needs to do better than last season panicky defending lest Zapata will take over. He more commanding presence at 6.4ft. Kolo can complement them by being DM but with Velosso he would become surplus to requirement as he does’nt like a bench. Sine Man City have money to throw around get another £20m giving us a sizable kitty after sales of Adebayor.
I’d go ahead and bring David Villa or Progrebniak who is cheaper than chips: £12m.
That would be a team strength of depth and ready to take and challenge for all honours and confident of getting some silverware at the end of season.
June 10th, 2009 at 1:32 pm
That would be a good team but on the subs, i would add on Song becuase he is a gd substitute for central midfield role, then Jay Simpson again ia very good striker read squad player, Ramsey for any midfield role and ofcourse Eboue as a cover for Sagna!!!
June 10th, 2009 at 1:34 pm
So Eduardo, Song and Djourou no longer plays for us then?
Vermaelen – basically done
Zapata – only if Gallas, Toure and Senderos go.
Veloso – possible
Gallas is a much better defender than Toure. When he got injured our season was effectively over.
June 10th, 2009 at 1:34 pm
I agree with most of what you have said. I disagree on a few areas.
1- Arsharvin is our best player, closely followed by Cesc
2- Instead of Veloso we should sign Lorik Cana. He is a monster in the middle and would be the perfect partner for Cesc.
June 10th, 2009 at 1:35 pm
So Eduardo, Song and Djourou dont play for us anymore?

Not bad, but I’d go with a 4-3-3 formation my team is as follows!
GK Robert Green
I think he’s highly underrated and much better than Almunia!
LB Gael Clichy
Great reliable player
RB Bacary Sagna
Great reliable player
CB Left Thomas Vermaelen
Great in the air and he’s only 5″11 also he’s a leader. Let’s face it has there been a bad player to play for Ajax let alone to be their captain.
CB Right Christian Zapata
Big strong quick just what we need, but I would only sign him if we sold Gallas.
DM Kolo Toure (Maybe a bit of a shock)
But sometimes his positional sense is lacking but never his desire and work rate. In my opinion He could be every good as his brother in this position.
CM Cesc Fabregas
Captain, need I say more.
CM Abou Diaby (Again maybe a bit of a shock)
I like Diaby but he needs to stay fit and play more games, touted as the next Vieira he really needs to start living up to that. Only time will tell!
ST Left Andrey Arshavin
Said he prefers a more attacking role and after his four goals at Anfield I think he deserves it.
ST Centre Theo Walcott
He reminds me of a young Michael Owen, he’s got no skill just pace which is a defenders nightmare!
ST Right Robin Van Persie
He is world-class simple as that.
The Bench
Jack Wilshere
Great prospect for the future.
Johan Djourou
Decent cover
Carlos Vela
His finishing is second to one Eduardo!
Eduardo
He could easily replace Walcott as the central striker no better finisher in the premiership.
Aaron Ramsay
Again another great prospect for the future.
Denilson
Highly underrated in my opinion he does a good job for Arsenal which makes him a great squad player.
Alexandre Song
He improved a lot last season and deserves his place in the squad.
Samir Nasri
Unlucky not to be in the starting eleven in a 4-4-2 he’d start.
Kieran Gibbs
The future England left back.
June 11th, 2009 at 11:22 am
Oh I forgot I’d have Manuel Almunia as my sub GK.
He’s not bad cover just not good enough to play week in week out in the first team.
June 14th, 2009 at 8:52 pm
My Team will be :
Almunia
Sagna Toure Vermaelen Clichy
Walcott Fabregas Veloso or Nasri Arshavin
Van Persie Eduardo
This Will Be The Best Team Trust Me.
July 5th, 2009 at 10:14 am
Neuer
Sagna Toure Vermaelen Clichy
Arshavin Fabregas Melo Nasri
RVP Eduardo
Subs Bench:
Almunia,Djourou,Sakho,Denilson,Rosicky,Walcott,Adebayor
